A father becomes a soldier again. A soldier commands an army. A commander becomes a hero.

Resurrected Soldiers is the third book in the military fantasy series The Tyrus Chronicle.

Tyrus never thought he'd see war again, but to save his family he must once again accept its sickening embrace. By night, painful memories of past battles haunt his dreams. By day, the nightmare continues as he commands an army against impossible odds to destroy the Geneshan artifact responsible for the near destruction of Turine. Worrying about friends and family both near and far, he wonders if he'll ever truly know peace.

Ava promised her brother she would take his kids and those traveling with them to the safety of the Southern Kingdoms. She didn't think it would be an easy journey, but she couldn't have foreseen facing roving armies in addition to battling the unexpected obstacles of the bleak land. She is forced into a role she never wanted, being a leader. With so many relying on her, she hopes past experiences and the fraction of sorcery still under her command will be enough for her to succeed. Joshua P. Wayward Soldiers is the second book in the military fantasy series The Tyrus Chronicle.

Tyrus expected his world to change once the Geneshan War ended. He expected it to change more once he finally reunited with his family.

He did not foresee that the biggest upheaval to his world would be caused by Turine sorcerers tampering with an ancient Geneshan artifact in the capital city of Hol.

The land stands devastated and covered in a haze. Sorcerers are unable to use their power. The king and capital are likely destroyed. Raiders seek to profit in a world without law.

Tyrus decides that he must get his loved ones to the safety of the Southern Kingdoms if they are to have any chance of surviving. The quick flight he plans turns into a labored journey when local townsfolk join his party. Expecting only new dangers now before him, Tyrus fails to anticipate old ones haunting his steps.Joshua P.
Today is the official release of Forgotten Soldiers, the first of four books in the series.

Podium Publishing has made a strong name for themselves over the last several years as a producer of high-quality audiobooks. They've done an excellent job with this first book. Steven Brand is the narrator. He has a great reputation and has worked with several best-selling authors. I think he captured the tone of Tyrus and the story perfectly. You can find out more about them at their website, www.podiumpublishing.com.
A great war. A changed world. A soldier through it all.

Forgotten Soldiers is the first book in the military fantasy The Tyrus Chronicle.

The Turine army is on the brink of victory against the Geneshans. Sergeant Tyrus and his unit are tasked to steal an artifact from the enemy that some believe has the power to destroy the world. Taking such power from the Geneshans would end the decade long war.

Upon their success, Tyrus’s unit is among the first wave of soldiers discharged from the army. War has robbed him of time with his wife and children, but now the life he has dreamed of every day for the last ten years is just a long journey away.

Traveling home, Tyrus finds the world he left behind changed in ways he never expected. His own countrymen view returning soldiers as a threat. His own townsmen want to forget he even existed. Danger is everywhere. His dream is in jeopardy. Joshua P. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
-Ferris Bueller

I thought that quote was a good way to start off this post. It definitely speaks to how I feel lately. Juggling family, work, writing, powerlifting, and other hobbies, I’m admittedly pretty worn out. The last few months have been especially tiring. I say all that because I know my blog posts are few and far between and honestly, I don’t know if that will change any time soon.

However, I do want to make a conscious effort to at least provide updates on my writing several times of year as news comes in.

Therefore, I’m happy to announce that The Epic of Andrasta and Rondel books have new covers!

I liked the original covers as I felt they had a pulp feel to them that fit with the sword & sorcery/action adventure genre the stories fall into. But despite positive feedback on the stories and characters themselves, the series has never really gained traction like Blood & Tears or The Tyrus Chronicle.

So in an effort to bring more readers to the series, I had Mario Teodosio (creator of The Tyrus Chronicle covers) redo the Andrasta and Rondel covers in his style. Check them out below and leave your thoughts in the comments. Personally, I think they came out great!
Not a huge gap between numbers 5 and 1. Also not a huge gap with the albums that didn’t make the top five.

5. Spiritual Beggars – Sunrise to Sundown
Such an underrated band. Hard Rock at its best.

4. Charred Walls of the Damned – Creatures Watching Over the Dead
Ripper once again strikes gold.

3. Killswitch Engage – Incarnate
Another solid release.

2. Necromancing the Stone – Jewel of the Vile
Just wanted to add that I originally checked these guys out because of their name. I thought it was a funny reference to the two 1980 movies (Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile). I was pleasantly surprised to learn that these guys were way more than just a silly band name. Great musicianship.

1. Anthrax – For All Kings
Not quite as good as Worship Music, but still an unbelievable release. One of the few bands out there that seem to be getting better with age.

A few weeks ago, I was approached by Podium Publishing to bring The Tyrus Chronicles to audiobook.

Podium Publishing has made a strong name for themselves over the last several years as a producer of high-quality audiobooks. Most notably, they produced Andy Weir’s The Martian which won a ton of industry awards. The Martian is considered to be one of the best-selling audiobooks of all time and the first audiobook to receive over a hundred thousand ratings. Skimming through the reviews of other books in their catalog, it seems they select stories that resonate well with their target audience. You can find out more about them at their website, www.podiumpublishing.com.

Given the above, I was excited to have a discussion with them about The Tyrus Chronicles and glad we were able to reach contract terms that satisfied us both.

I don’t have a specific date on when the first audiobook will be released just yet, but based on what I know now, please keep a look out for them in 2017.

If you enjoy the story or any of my other works, please consider leaving a rating or review at the site of purchase as well as other places such as Goodreads and Librarything. Like many other indie authors, I do not have a marketing team working for me and a positive review (even if only a couple of sentences long) can go a long way in enticing others to give my works a try.
It’s not because I’ve been slacking. I just haven’t had the time or energy to write anything for the blog outside of a couple Music Monday posts here and there. I've been really busy with writing, editing, outlining a new series, and my day job.

I'm taking a few minutes away today to let everyone know that I’m working on the last round of edits for Forever Soldiers: The Tyrus Chronicle - Book Four. The goal is get this last Tyrus book released during Labor Day week (the week of September 5th for those not in the States).
Unbelievably well written songs with some of Slash’s best guitar work. Most of these songs sound like they belong on a follow-up to Appetite for Destruction. Though Eric Dover does a great job on vocals, I think if Axl had sung on this album, it could have been packaged as a GNR release. It would have been huge.

Regardless, a supergroup that consists of 3 GNR members (Slash, Matt Sorum, and Gilby Clarke), Mike Inez from AIC, and Eric Drover from Jellyfish is a must own for any hard rock fan.

One positive, is that I’ve “rediscovered” a couple of bands I hadn’t checked out in some time. At the top of the list is Chimaira. They released several solid albums before calling it quits. Unfortunately, there was only one album with Kevin Talley on drums.
Check out two of my favorites below.
Only after I listen to them do I realize that there is some repetitiveness to their sound which is probably why I don’t own more of their releases. Still, they’re worth checking out. Below is their biggest hit.
The fact that I’m only getting to it now should let you know how continually busy I’ve been. This is mostly due to a promotion at my day job which resulted in me working most of the old position and new position until my old role had been filled. That transition is finally under way. Unfortunately, work won’t completely ease up yet since there are quite a few projects I’m leading or co-leading.

With that being said, I wanted to share a few notables that I’ve recently reached in my writing career and then take a quick look at 2016 and beyond.

Milestones:
- On Christmas Eve 2015, I published Resurrected Soldiers: The Tyrus Chronicles - Book Three. This was my ninth full-length novel and my twelfth published work.
o With that book, I have now published over a million words (just a bit under 1.1 million). That’s a pretty awesome thing to type.
o So far the novel has been well-reviewed by my readers, and the series as a whole continues to be well-received by veterans or soldiers currently serving their country. The latter especially means a great deal to me.
o It has sold very well, and due to its release, I received a spike in sales across my full catalog resulting in my biggest month of sales in January 2016.
o During the early part of January, I even managed to crack the 50,000 mark in total book sales.

Updates:
- On the downside, I had hoped to release a third book in 2015 which for various reasons didn’t happen (partially due to work, partially as a business decision).
- Though I am making good progress on Forever Soldiers, the fourth and final book of the Tyrus Chronicles, it is taking a bit longer to get through the rough draft than I had expected. Therefore, it is very likely that it will be the only full-length novel I release in 2016 (at some point during summer).
- Once Forever Soldiers is finished, I’m hoping to spend the rest of the year hammering through one of several ideas I’m considering for my next series. My goal is to release two books for that new series in 2017, then shoot for a minimum of two releases a year thereafter. I’d like to release 3-4 books a year, but with work as it currently is and other my obligations, I think I’d struggle to meet that goal.

Hopefully your 2016 is a good one!
Here's the description for Resurrected Soldiers.

Tyrus never thought he’d see war again, but to save his family he must once again accept its sickening embrace. By night, painful memories of past battles haunt his dreams. By day, the nightmare continues as he commands an army against impossible odds to destroy the Geneshan artifact responsible for the near destruction of Turine. Worrying about friends and family both near and far, he wonders if he’ll ever truly know peace.

Ava promised her brother she would take his kids and those traveling with them to the safety of the Southern Kingdoms. She didn’t think it would be an easy journey, but she couldn’t have foreseen facing roving armies in addition to battling the unexpected obstacles of the bleak land. She is forced into a role she never wanted, being a leader. With so many relying on her, she hopes past experiences and the fraction of sorcery still under her command will be enough for her to succeed.

Resurrected Soldiers is the third volume in The Tyrus Chronicle. The final book of the series, Forever Soldiers, is due to be released Summer 2016.
The past few years I’ve gone well over that goal, but this year I probably won’t crack 40. Admittedly, a part of that is not only being busier with work and other responsibilities, but also I picked a few duds that I either didn’t finish, or simply took a long time to get through.

Anyway, my top ten below were all great reads and in every instance was one I couldn’t wait to get back to. Highly recommended.

10. Orson Scott Card – Ender’s Game

Lived up to the hype. I also read Speaker of the Dead which I greatly enjoyed, but this one was slightly more up my alley.

9. Terry Pratchett – Reaper Man

One of Pratchett’s better books that I’ve read so far. Still a little less than a third through his massive catalog.

8. Joe Abercrombie – Red Country

Awesome book. One of my favorite authors. Loved the setting and also the continuation of a great character from earlier books.

7. Robin Hobb – Assassin’s Quest

Don’t know why I only recently read this series, but I’m glad I finally did. I enjoyed it so much I’m currently reading the The Tawny Man trilogy as well.

6. Robin Hobb – Royal Assassin

The best of the first trilogy, IMO. The first book was interesting, but pretty slow at first, really only grabbing me until around the 60% mark. Royal Assassin had me hooked from the very beginning.

5. Tim O’Brien – The Things They Carried

Sobering stories that show the side of war rarely discussed in fiction or even in real life.

4. Matthew Stover – Caine’s Law

This whole series dominates the top of my list. Another author like Robin Hobb I wished I would have read sooner. Stover is now a fav of mine and Caine might be the baddest man I’ve ever read in fiction.

3. Matthew Stover – Caine Black Knife

2. Matthew Stover – Heroes Die

1. Matthew Stover – Blade of Tyshalle

Though I love the first book in the series quite a bit, this one was so different and interesting that it edged out Heroes Die for me.

So, what great books have you read this year?

This was probably the hardest list I’ve done since I started my blog. I could honestly shuffle most of these albums around depending on the day and my mood (except my number one). I mean that in a good way as they are really solid releases.
